Off-Site Storage Facility

The University Library is a Grade 2 listed, landmark building of architectural significance. Designed bySir Giles Gilbert Scott and built in the early 1930’s, it is one of the world’s most important copyright libraries.

During our decade long consultancy relationship with the University of Cambridge, Fox Associates have been privileged to be appointed on many high-profile lead consultancy roles for this internationally significant building.

Project Overview

Due to our long and trusted relationship with the library, we were appointed to project manage their move into a new purpose built, off site storage facility.

The new facility is required to store the library’s expanding collections and to ensure that the academic users viewing and borrowing requirements, are always met.

We were appointed at an advanced and critical stage in the project, when it became apparent that external consultancy was required to lead, coordinate and risk manage the many, already established teams and academic departments that were unfamiliar with the delivery of such a large and complex project.

Although the appointment was not our standard construction-based project, we applied our expertise of programming, risk and people management to ensure the library was able to successfully open the doors to a fully functional facility on programme and to budget.

The project provided us with the opportunity to demonstrate that project management and programming skills, developed through the management of complex and demanding construction projects, can be transferred successfully to any non construction-based environment.
